International Women’s Day

A woman is beauty..

A woman is strength..

A woman is power..

A woman is hope..

A woman is love..

A woman is the future..

woman

Today is International women’s day, International Women’s Day (IWD), originally called International Working Women’s Day, is marked on March 8 every year. In different regions the focus of the celebrations ranges from general celebration of respect, appreciation and love towards women to a celebration for women’s economic, political and social achievements.

In many parts of the world women are abused, treated like second class citizens  raped, and just plain disrespected and not loved the way they are supposed to be.

On this International Women’s Day let women embrace themselves in multiple identities and complexities. Each of us embodies many realities all at the same time. The same woman who may be raped is also a mother, a professional worker, a migrant labourer, or…. None of our issues should be singularised although there are times they need priority.

This said, it is time in 2013 to recognise us as a sexual class across the globe. Women as a sexual class inhabit the diverse politics of living in a female body with its many colours, races, genders and classes. As such this sexual class is not unitary, but rather poly-versally united.

International Women’s Day started in the early 1900s – mostly by Socialist Parties to recognise the paid “work” of women. The Soviet Union was famous for its rhetoric of “sexual equality”, while demanding triple days of labour from its women. Today, women across the globe work for wages as teachers, soldiers, civilians, warriors, doctors, nurses, medical-aides, lawyers, paralegals, domestic labourers, cooks, sex-workers, chefs, janitors, migrants and more.

These women are also daughters mothers, sisters, wives, partners, single, gay, straight, trans, rich, poor, middle class, slum-dwellers and homeless – while struggling and achieving – with cancer and without cancer; with AIDS and without AIDS; disabled or fully abled; in war zones and not. They come in all colours and design. No woman is ever simply/singularly female, but it is always of consequence that she is.

Common struggles

Women – in all their cacophonous variety have enormous potential power as labourers, child-bearers and child-rearers, and sustainers of everyday life. Patriarchy and misogyny struggle to control and contain this power.

int

If women were not as powerful as they also are sometimes powerless, we would simply be ignored. Instead, we are wrapped in blue cloth from head to toe, we are kept away from education, we are controlled to use right to divorce and right to control our bodies – abortion and contraception – only because those who dominate us fear our potential power and creativity; glass and cement ceilings keep us curtailed. You do not bother oppressing those who do little and are only capable of less.

Women are bound together by what they share, and also often pulled apart by their differences. Yet, there are common struggles: against sexual violence, for daycare and child-care supports; against unequal pay and for an end to sexual ghettos. Commonality does not require sameness.

In other words, women, in all their inter sectional diversity and individuality, must be recognized as a sexual class across racial and economic divides, with shared interests in order to be treated with full humanity. The women in Tahrir Square and in the streets of Tunisia demanded their human rights for themselves and all Egyptians and Tunisians alike. Their female bodies spoke of their sexual status, while they claimed their poly and universal rights to occupy the public streets. They chose not to be defined simply by their sexual status, but to claim that women’s rights are human rights.

Embrace women and girls – their bodies, their labor  their love, their “civilian” suffering in war, their hauling of water, their gathering of wood, their amazing creativity, their planting of trees, their protection of the environment, their stand against fracking, their fight to maintain abortion rights and other reproductive freedoms, their bravery in public and private spaces – anywhere and everywhere across this globe.

Great Activists Come In All Sizes..

As i’m sure most of us have been following the story of the courageous little girl “Malala” who was brutally shot because she had a blog emphasizing on girl’s education in Pakistan, i just wanted to have an overview of our planet when kids are concerned.

In first world countries, we tend to take menial things that other kids around the globe are fighting and wishing to get( like education) for granted. Bailing out of school and wanting to live a comfortable bum life instead of getting knowledge. This little Pakistani girl, Malala Yousufzai was coming home from school in a van with other school children when Taliban assassins stopped the vehicle, climbed on and demanded that the children identify her. Terrified, the children did it and the men fired, also wounding two other girls. She was however fortunate enough to survive and is now recovering from this brutal attack.

At only 14 years old, she is already a global symbol, fighting for the right to education and to freedom and to have a voice, the more interviews she is given the more mature and adult like she seems.

Below is a small piece from an interview she gave in the 2011 with CNN:

Why do you risk your life to raise your voice? a reporter asked her.

In perfect English, she answered that her people need her.

“I shall raise my voice,” she insisted.

“If I didn’t do it, who would?” she said.

Girls who are scared should fight their fear, she said.

“Don’t sit in your bedrooms.

“God will ask you on the day of judgment, ‘Where were you when your people were asking you … when your school fellows were asking you and when your school was asking you …’Why I am being blown up?’ ”

In a world filled with darkness, wicked people and wars, she is our trickle of light showing that there is still hope.I pray for her recovery and hope that this article of this small girl with tremendous hope and courage inspires all..

The man behind the evil..

For weeks now i have debated commenting about this topic.. Avoiding it at all costs, but i just can not stand being silent anymore..

As we all know and have seen a few weeks ago an anti Islam trailer was released and things went from zero to 100 in a matter of hours.. Americans in Arab countries died because of this film, Muslims were insulted because of this film, friendships deteriorated because of it and violence erupted all over the world against anything American was on an all time high.

His crudely made 13-minute video was filmed in California and circulated online under several titles including “Innocence of Muslims.” It portrays the Prophet Mohammad as a fool and a sexual deviant.

The clip sparked a torrent of anti-American unrest in Egypt, Libya and dozens of other Muslim countries over the past two weeks. The violence coincided with an attack on U.S. diplomatic facilities in Benghazi that killed four Americans, including the U.S. ambassador to Libya.

Personally i do not really want to comment on the film its self because it was not only respectful, but very cheap looking and obviously ridiculous!

I believe that this man is evil and deserves more punishment than he is getting because he cause a world wide controversy, caused deaths of countless people in many different countries as well as the fall out of many companies( like macdonalds and KFC being burned down in Pakistan). The man behind this evilness was arrested on Thursday in California for allegedly violating his probation, and a federal judge ordered him jailed without bond.

Nakoula Basseley Nakoula, 55, was taken into custody at an undisclosed location by U.S. marshals and brought to court in Los Angeles still wearing his street clothes but handcuffed and shackled at the waist.

Nakoula has been under investigation by probation officials looking into whether he violated the terms of his 2011 release from prison on a bank fraud conviction while making the film, though authorities have said they were not probing the movie itself.

“The court has a lack of trust in the defendant at this time,” U.S. Magistrate Judge Suzanne Segal said in refusing Nakoula’s request for bail at a hearing in U.S. District Court.

Animal Protection In Malaysia..

Over the last 4 years that i have been a student in Malaysia i have been witness to a wide variety of animal abuse here. And don’t  get me wrong, i’m not saying this is the only country where animals are abused, but it is one of the countries which do not necessarily have strong laws against such acts of abuses and the little laws that do exist are rarely ever enforced.

*Disclaimer: The videos in the links might be hard to watch..

2 weeks ago a horrifying video of 2 Somali students throwing a small helpless puppy into a manhole surfaced and caused an up raw among the students and all people living amongst these monsters. To see the video you can go to the link below..

http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=10150981962112135

The Somalian student was entrusted by his friend to care for his puppy during his absence as he went on vacation to his home country(Jordan), the guy trusted with taking care of the puppy threw it into a manhole with the help of another perpetrator while a third man recorded it on his phone as they laughed, joked and enjoyed the themselves while torturing it..Having left Malaysia in June for a month-long holiday, Mostafa entrusted his Somalian friend Mohamad Hasan to care for Kanilla in his absence.

The story was reported as it shows below on a single small space in a newspaper:

“On Mostafa’s return, Mohamad told the former that Kanilla had gone missing,” said Shenaaz.
However, Shenaaz said that another friend of Mostafa had downloaded a video showing Mohamad and another Somalian, Ahmad Subair Addirahman Mohamoud, throwing the docile mutt into a manhole. The duo are said to be students at the Malaysian Multimedia University (MMU).
Shenaaz said that Mostafa had lodged a police report on the matter at the Cyberjaya police station three days ago. She urged the authorities to take action against the Somalians and claimed the duo had threatened Mostafa for making the report.
“The duo threatened Mostafa for putting the picture clippings of their heinous act on Facebook,” she alleged.‘Take immediate action’
FMT checked the video which runs for 1 minute 50 seconds, showing Subair holding the puppy while Mohamad hurled profanities before throwing the dog.
An unknown cameraman told the duo, “Okay, hurry up. Just do it and then we run like nothing happened.”
Later, Mohamad faced the camera and said, “F… this dog. This b…. is dead.”
The duo then threw Kanilla into the manhole and ran away while laughing.
The duo’s act drew ire from Facebook’s users, with many calling for the police to take immediate action against the Somalians.

Now the boys have effectively disappeared, dis-activating their facebook accounts and also moving out from the apartments they used to live in in the Cyberjaya area. This story hurt me dearly, i hate it when i see poor helpless creatures being hurt by us humans just because we are somewhat stronger and they are at our mercy. Of course as with all situations we as humans always have to lose perspective and start making the issue what it isnt, people started bringing up the race card( saying its because they are black, calling them f’ing n****), and then they brought up the religion card( saying these guys are brutal because they are muslims, which has nothing to do with the situation what-so ever)

Now the one bad thing is that the authorities where told here in Malaysia but nothing was done, which isn’t really much of a surprise, nothing is ever done here. It is the same situation as the video where a Chinese man was abusing a small cute poodle because he wanted it to stand on its hind legs and when it wouldnt he slapped it around( ridiculous i know :-/ )

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LP08cn-IsbQ&oref=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fresults%3Fsearch_query%3Dchinese%2Bman%2Babuses%2Ba%2Bpoodle

It is not only house pets being abused, also animals in zoos, just as there was a story where a tiger was starved and abused for months just so that it can be dormant and lifeless for people to take pictures with them. I just wish laws in this country could be modified and changed to actually protect animals, not just to “pretend to protect the animals..

I ranted a bit i know.. but i just had to let it out.. 🙂 I mean look at this face, who would ever want to hurt it.. ?? :-/

Day 3..Your view on drugs and alcohol

Today is Day three of the blog challenge, i have to state my view on drugs and alcohol.. Personally i have nothing against alcohol personally, but i don’t drink, never have and i doubt i ever will for the simple reason that i hate the smell of it and i hate being out of control( being  intoxicated will be my ultimate loss of power of my actions and my power). I don’t want to do something that i will probably regret the following day and i wouldn’t want to wake up with a hang over and all of that.

I personally think no one should do drugs because not only are they bad for your body and mind they also ruin one’s life and future.. They are also so very addictive and  once you are hooked it’s pretty hard to get off them. But to each is own.. every decision one makes it really is up to them..

till tomorrow.. 🙂

Hi guys!! Yesterday i decided to take up the 30 day challenge, so here we go, today is day one and the day’s question is : Your current relationship status; if single discusses how single life is.

So i am not single, i have a boyfriend of 4 years, 4 months and 9 days.. 😀 I’m not sure if i should still answer how being single was because it was a pretty long time ago, and the relationship that im in right now is my very first.. *blushing*. and he is a wonderful, loving, wise, super sweet man. so i cant really remember how single life was like….lol.. But i can tell you that relationship life has been amazing.. of course we have our rough days just like every other couple in the planet, but all in all we are the happiest we have ever been.Being in college i have seen how relationships in university are, they hardly ever last a month  never the less a whole 4 years . Even after 4 years we are still as close and as in love as the very first month we were together and i am happy to say i truly think he is my soul mate!! 😀
